Frequently Asked Questions
NAT (Network Address Translation) describes how your router translates private addresses and how reachable you are from the internet. Standard classifications include:
• Open Internet: No NAT (public IP).
• Full Cone NAT: One-to-one mapping; any external host can reach the mapped port.
• Restricted Cone NAT: Inbound allowed only from external IPs you have contacted.
• Port-Restricted Cone NAT: Like Restricted, but must match IP and port.
• Symmetric NAT: Each outbound destination gets a unique mapping; hardest for P2P.
There is no perfect one-to-one mapping, but generally:
• Open Internet / Full Cone → PS5 NAT Type 1 (Open).
• Restricted / Port-Restricted Cone → Often PS5 NAT Type 2 (Moderate) when UPnP or port forwarding works.
• Symmetric NAT or CGNAT → Commonly PS5 NAT Type 3 (Strict).
Note: Actual results depend on router, firewall rules, and ISP policies.
1. Enable UPnP on your router
2. Configure port forwarding
3. Set your device as DMZ host
4. Update router firmware
5. Contact your ISP for more options
NAT type directly affects your online gaming experience. Stricter NAT types (like NAT3) may cause:
• Difficulty connecting to game servers
• Poor voice chat quality
• Longer matchmaking times
• Inability to host game lobbies
